Other activities and projects related to research

Research interests and activities of Francesca Montagna cover Management of Innovation, Engineering Design and Decision Making in Product Development. They are deepened through funded and collaborations in the private and public sector. The research activities carried out in companies or public institutions have focused either on 1) the requirement analysis and design of new products (e.g. Alenia Aermacchi SpA, Abet Laminati SpA, Medallcare) and services (Comune di Torino, Intesa Sanpaolo SpA, P&G, TIM) 2) manufacturing system design (Azimut Yachts, Barilla Spa), also in term of social sustainability of prduction systems 3) the management of product development and innovation processes (e.g. Comau, Alenia Aermacchi SpA, Thales Alenia Space, AVL, STC).

Francesca Montagna has been member of Associazione Italiana Tecnologia Meccanica since 2009 and of Design Society, the international scientific community on Engineering Design since 2009. In the Design Society she in elected in the Advisory Board, playing the role of strategic and operational support to the Board of Management, as well as participation and coordination of specific committees.

Consequently, she has regularly attended conferences organized by these associations: the AITEM biennial conference, the International Design Conference (years 2008-2010-2012-2014-2016), the International Conference on Engineering Design (ICED) (years 2009-2013-2015-2017) and the Design Computing and Cognition (DCC) (years 2010-2014-2016). In those occasions, she usually serves as reviewer and session chair at the International Design Conference (years 2012-2014) and at the International Conference on Engineering Design (years 2013-2015-2017). She was member of the Organizing Committee of the 20th International Conference on Engineering Design (ICED 15) that was held in Milan on July 27-30th, 2015 with around 600 attendees. Consequently, she was member of the editorial board for two volumes of the proceedings: Organisation and Management (ISBN: 978-1-904670-66-7), Innovation and Creativity (ISBN: 978-1-904670-71-1). Member of 3 Special Interest Group (SIG) within the Design Society scientific community: 'Design Practice', 'Design Process', 'Decision Making', aimed respectively at defining methods of design, management and planning of the product development.

She has been reviewer on the themes of product development for the different journals, among them:
